About the City

The Sacred City of India

One of India's oldest cities and among Hinduism's most sacred pilgrimage sites, Pushkar sits in a natural basin surrounded by the Aravalli Range, 11 km northwest of Ajmer. Its 52 ghats descend to the holy Pushkar Lake, where devotees have bathed for over two millennia. The city's spiritual heart is the Brahma Temple — the only major temple in the world dedicated to Lord Brahma, the Creator in the Hindu trinity.

Each year in November, Pushkar hosts the legendary Pushkar Camel Fair — one of the world's largest camel fairs and a UNESCO-recognised cultural event drawing traders, pilgrims and travellers from across the globe. Beyond the sacred, Pushkar's bazaars, rooftop cafes and whitewashed streets make it one of Rajasthan's most enchanting destinations.
