Rising from the heart of the Thar Desert, Jaisalmer's honey-yellow sandstone fort, ornate havelis and rolling dunes have earned it the name the Golden City. A living medieval city where camel safaris, folk music and desert sunsets await — with a Ddhora cab to take you there.
Founded in 1156 AD by Rawal Jaisal of the Bhati Rajput clan, Jaisalmer sits on the Trikuta Hill in the heart of the Great Thar Desert. Its magnificent sandstone fort — one of the world's few living forts — houses a quarter of the city's population within its walls, including havelis, temples and hotels that have stood for centuries.
The city is celebrated for its intricately carved havelis, golden dunes at Sam Sand Dunes, camel safaris and the vibrant Desert Festival held each February. UNESCO recognised Jaisalmer Fort as part of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan World Heritage Site in 2013.
