The Pink City of India
Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, Jaipur was one of India's first planned cities — laid out on a precise grid following the principles of the ancient Vastu Shastra. Its distinctive pink walls were ordered in 1876 to welcome the Prince of Wales, and the tradition has been maintained ever since.
